Company history - Craftsmanship with Tradition

Our workshop is located in a restored half-timbered historic building from the 17th century on the outskirts of the town center of Celle. Extending over 100 m², we have a workshop studio, a sales room and two special rooms available for you to take your time to try out any of our string instruments.

The history of the violin making workshop studio in Celle

Visit us in one of the oldest half-timbered houses in the town center of Celle.

The workshop was founded in Celle in 1981 by luthier Herbert-Rainer Knobel. After he died in 2006, his wife Christine continued the business with great success.

Michelle Stemann

After many years as an employee associate, I took over on 1 September 2013 and now run the workshop as Geigenbau Michelle Stemann, looking forward to continuing to serve and advise our current and future customers.

I began my training as luthier in September 2000 in the violinmaking workshop Knobel. After having completed my specialist theoretical craft studies at the violin making school in Mittwald in October 2003, I was taken on as an assistant in Celle.
